The opening ceremony of the 41st session of the World Heritage Committee took place in Wawel Castle Kraków on July 2th 2017. The ceremony was signed by the greetings of President of Poland Andrzej Duda, UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, Mayor of Krakow Prof. Jacek Majkrowski , Chairperson of the UNESCO Poland Jacek Purchla.
The Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova said that one city in Poland, Warsaw were entirely destroyed and rebuilt, is aware the power of culture to give a hope and regain confidence. She said also that wherever culture is generated, a people also regenerated with it. Then about World Heritage Convention, the responsibility to respect its rules should grows as the convention grows. The 41st session of World Heritage Committee will last from July 2nd until 12th 2017 and is charied by Jacek Purchla, founder and director of the International Cultural Centre in Krakow. The session will assess 34 nominations for inscription on the World Heritage List, including seven natural sites, 26 cultural sites and one mixed site. The first session will also review about the state of conservation of 99 World Heritage sites and 55 sites inscribed on the List of World Heritage in Danger.
